Why Does Zhao Yunlei Prefer Mixed Doubles to Women's Doubles at 2016 Rio Olympic?

JAKARTA - Senayan again took its toll at the BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier 2016. On Saturday evening (4/6), the "victim" was the China's #1 seed mixed doubles, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei, who had to take a bitter defeat at the U$ 900.000 tournament.

They had to take the defeat given by Korean Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na in a two set match 14-21 and 17-21.

“The defeat was due to exhaustiveness since besides playing in two categories, we also had a fierce match prior to the last match," Zhao said.

Previously, they have tasted defeats in the other categories. Zhao lost in the women's doubles in the second round with Tian Qing while Zhang lost in quarter final (men's doubles) together with Fu Haifeng.

This tournament is their last one before appearing at 2016 Rio Olympic in next August. And at the Olympic, they will play in their respective category. Commenting on the their defeats in their respective categories due to fatigue, Zhao said if he could choose, he would rather to focus on mixed doubles at 2016 Rio.

“If I can choose, I will want to focus on mixed doubles. But I will try my best there," he said without giving further reasons.
