Unpredictably, women's doubles pair, Rizki Amelia Pradipta/Tiara Rosalia Nuraida, succeeded in overcoming Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei on Thursday afternoon in a fierce three game match.
Losing the opening set with 17-21, they made a comeback in the second set by winning 21-17. The fierce battle occurred in the ultimate set. Winning 8-4, it didn't take time for the points to be 10 square. They even lost the lead 10-11 at interval. Catching up point game was inevitable, drive battles and rapid offensive play were occurring in the set.
The match taking 61 minutes was played with fast tempo. The two pairs made the points equal 14-14 through 18-18. But the Senayan noise roared when Tiara/Rizki took three crucial points, 21-18, they just stopped the 2012 Olympic champion.
“We didn't think too much about winning during the match. We just thought that giving a fierce resistance was good enough, but it turned out we could win," Tiara said.
“We tried to focus, point by point, it was quite unimaginable we could win this," Rizki said.
This match is their third encounter. Previously, Tiara/Rizki were forced to bow to the world's #4 in women's doubles with 17-21 and 11-21 at the 2016 Singapore Open Superseries.
In the quarter final tomorrow, Friday (3/6), Tiara/Rizky will face Eefje Muskens/Selena Piek (Netherland).
