Upsets emerged in the second day of the BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier 2017 last night, Tuesday (13/6). In the tournament offering US$ 1 million prize money, the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist from Spain, Carolina Marin, was sent home in the first round.

The second seeded was surprisingly stunned by Chen Xiaoxin from.China with 12-21, 21-10 dan 20-22.

“Today was pretty tough to fight the match, I had difficulty in controlling shuttlecock due to the pitch condition, but of course this is not an excuse. I am very disappointed with the result,” said Marin.

“After this defeat, I will prepare for Australia next week for sure," Carolina said.

Beside Marin, some seeded players had to stop early in the first round after defeats. They are Indonesia's seventh seeded mixed doubles, Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto, the eighth seeded women's singles from Thailand, Ratchanok Intanon, the fourth seeded player from Denmark, Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen, and the seventh seeded women's singles from China, He Bingjiao.
