JAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton fans have to take a bitter defeat on the fourth day of the BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier 2016, Thursday, (2/6).

After the defeat of the Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, and also Indonesian seeded women’s doubles, Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari, Indonesia must lose its hope in men’s doubles.

Last night, Wednesday, (2/6) the only Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan had to surrender to Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding. They were overcome, 21-19 13-21 and 21-18.

“The result is not as we expected. We made our own mistakes in the match. We didn’t give them enough pressure,” Hendra said.

“They were calmer, braver, and they had better serves quality, while we made blunders,” Ahsan said.

This is the third time Ahsan/Hendra had to admit the Duo Mads superiority. Their last encounter was in the Thomas Cup final, last
Sunday Minggu (22/5). Ahsan/Hendra succeeded in giving Indonesian team a point after winning, 21-18 and 21-13.

The result alters their overall match score to 4-3. With the defeat, Indonesia doesn’t have any representative left in men’s doubles after the other two pairs. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo was halted by Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong, 15-21 and 19-21 while PB Djarum’s pair Akbar Bintang Cahyono/Angger Sudrajat were still unable to handle Chai Biao/Hong Wei. They lost 9-21 and 15-21.

Meanwhile, the unseeded men’s singles emerged with upsets. It gives a hope to the home team after two Indonesian men’s singles players, Ihsan Maulana Mustofa and Jonatan Christie succeeded in stepping forward to quarter final. Commenting on that, Hendra said, "Well, maybe it’s time for the men’s singles to win,” he said.
