This time Greysia is partnered with Rian Agung Saputro. This experiment is not as successful as it was when she was with Kevin two years ago in which they defeated China's first seeded, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei, in the first round.
In the qualifying round yesterday afternoon, Monday (30/5), Rian/Greysia seemed awkward playing together as they were forced to give a way for another Indonesian pair, Ardiansyah Putra/Devi Tika Permatasari. They lost two sets straight, 17-21 and 17-21.
“The idea of this duet is to allow us to have a chance adjusting the court as this is our coach's discretion. We played in the stadium every year but as time goes by the situation may differ, the wind factor, lighting, and so on. But my first priority is women's doubles especially approaching the Olympic," Greysia said after the match.
Rian is a men's doubles specialist who is now paired with Berry Angriawan while Greysia is one of the Indonesia's top players in women's doubles together with Nitya Krishinda Maheswari.
“Our opponents are traditional champions of the National Circuit so they posses good quality, they can not be underestimated," Greysia said.
“We don't know if we will play hand in hand in the future, one thing for sure, I want to focus for the Olympic. But when asked to do so, I am ready, for Indonesia," said Greysia.
Ardiansyah/Devi will take on Australian first seeded, Matthew Chau/Gronya Somerville, in the qualifying semifinal.
