“Jorgensen played very well today. I just tried to focus and relax, and in the beginning of the match I played below par, even when losing 17-19, I was ready to lose the match. At that time, I only tried to fight point every point," Lee said.
Meanwhile, Jorgensen said that it was not an easy thing to defeat Lee. “I tried my best but it was indeed tough. I Have been fighting the whole week and I am surprised myself I can reach final," Jorgensen said.
This is their second encounter in 2016. The first match they had was at the Malaysia Open last April where Lee won easily 21-7 and 21-14. “Jorgensen played far better than I today compared to the last match in Malaysia," Lee said.
Lee's victory in final becomes his 16th victory of 17 encounters with the world's #5 player. This is Lee's 6th titles he got in Indonesia. Lee became the champion for the first time in 2007. He even recorded hattrick at Senayan from 2009 to 2011. The two silver medalist at the Olympic won another title in 2013.
“This is a good result before the Olympic, it gains confidence for sure. Fortunately I could steal the second game as he was under pressured," Hendrawan, Lee's coach, said.
Lee is flying home immediately after completing his matches at the US$ 900 thousand tournament. Lee will leave for Australia this evening. “I will leave for Australia and hopefully I can continue my positive performance there. And I surely hope I can come back to Indonesia," he ended.
Besides Lee, Japan has recorded a history at Senayan. For the first time, Japan's women's doubles pair wins the title in Indonesia. Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi succeeded in becoming the champion after crushing Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang with 21-15, 8-21 and 21-15. Meanwhile the mixed doubles titles is won by China's pair, Xu Chen/Ma Jin who stunned Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na from South Korea 21-15, 16-21 and 21-13.
